I am not your financial adviser. I write about how I allocate my own capital and how I interpret China's economic and policy landscape. Nothing on this site is tailored to your circumstances — and it never will be. If you want stock tips or someone to tell you what to buy, this is the wrong place.
What I can offer is transparency: the research process behind my own decisions, the frameworks I actually use, and an honest account of what I get wrong. Everything below exists to make that boundary clear — both for you and for regulators.
Regulatory status and nature of publication
- Not licensed or regulated. I am not licensed, registered, or otherwise regulated by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong or any other financial regulatory body worldwide. Cohong Lane is not a regulated entity.
- One-to-many publication. Everything I publish goes to all readers on the same terms. There is no separate tier where I tailor analysis to any specific portfolio or individual. The content is uniform and general.
- Periodical publication. Cohong Lane is a periodical publication made generally available to the public via the internet. Where applicable, I intend to rely on the broadcaster/journalist (periodical publication) exclusion described in the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571) and the SFC Licensing Handbook.
- No advisory business and no client relationship. I do not carry on a business of providing investment advisory services. I am not your financial adviser, broker, agent, or fiduciary. No client relationship is created by reading this site, subscribing to the newsletter, or interacting with me on social media.
- No regulated services. I do not accept dealing instructions, execute transactions on behalf of readers, or manage anyone's assets. If it sounds like something that requires a licence, I am not doing it.
- Future paid tier. If I introduce a paid subscription in the future, it will provide the same content to all paying subscribers on uniform terms. No personalised services, suitability assessments, or client-specific recommendations — that does not change.
No investment advice
All content on this website — articles, newsletters, data, charts, portfolio discussions — is for informational, educational, and research purposes only.
- Not a recommendation. Nothing on Cohong Lane constitutes a recommendation, solicitation, invitation, or inducement to buy, sell, or hold any security, option, futures contract, or other financial instrument. When I write about a position I hold, I am explaining my reasoning — not suggesting you do the same thing.
- No personalisation and no suitability. I do not know your financial situation, your risk tolerance, your time horizon, or your objectives. Content is not prepared with regard to any of those things. No suitability assessment is made for any person.
- Risk of loss. Investments in financial instruments involve risk, including the possible loss of all capital invested. Past performance is not indicative of future results. This is not a disclaimer formality — it is the single most important sentence on this page.
- Do your own research. You should conduct your own independent research and due diligence and consult appropriately licensed professionals before making any investment decision. I am not that professional.
Accuracy, completeness, and forward-looking statements
- No guarantee. My research is based on publicly available sources and my own analytical process. It may be incomplete, contain errors, or become outdated without notice. I try to be rigorous, but rigorous is not the same as infallible.
- Opinions, not facts. Views expressed are my opinions as of the publication date and may change without notice. When I say "I think X will happen," I mean I currently assign that outcome a meaningful probability — not that I have a crystal ball.
- Forward-looking statements. Any projections, scenarios, estimates, or market outlooks are forward-looking and inherently uncertain. Actual outcomes may differ materially. They usually do.
Conflicts of interest and portfolio transparency
- Positions. I (and related parties) may hold long or short positions in securities discussed and may buy or sell at any time without notice. I do not guarantee timely or real-time disclosure of changes in my holdings.
- Transparency is not instruction. When I discuss my own portfolio, position sizing, or transactions, that is transparency and education. It is not an instruction, inducement, or recommendation to trade. My portfolio reflects my circumstances, my risk tolerance, and my mistakes. Yours should reflect yours.
Website boundaries
- No community or advisory channel. Cohong Lane does not currently operate an investor community, chat room, advisory hotline, or any channel through which personalised advice is provided. If I reply to a comment or message, it is a general response — not advice tailored to you.
- No recommendation tools. I do not currently provide tools that generate security-specific recommendations based on your investment profile.
- No referral or commission arrangements. I do not currently provide links intended to recommend any financial service provider and do not operate a referral or commission-based introducing model. If this ever changes, it will be disclosed.
Limitation of liability and non-reliance
- Use at your own risk. Your use of this website and any content is entirely at your own risk.
- No reliance. You agree that you will not rely on any content on Cohong Lane as the sole basis for any investment decision.
